Speed Costs Money. How Fast Do You Want To Go?

Aurora Super II Reproductions

This project has taken about a year to complete.  It is a spin-off of the Super Seven builds.  During those builds I had often thought of trying for a limited run of Super II clones, copies, whatever.  I started gathering parts as they became available.  That is actually the longest portion of time.
Once I had the parts, then the rest was only so much aggravating bench time.  There is quite a bit to do on each one.  Fitting the gears and axles was very time consuming.  Try it some time.  You'll say, "@#$%& parts!"
DC HO fabricated the 2-lammination armatures.  I wanted ones that were close in ohms to the original Quadra-Lam.  But I didn't want the weight of the 2 extra laminations.  The extra weight adds to the fly-wheel effect of the armature.  It takes a bit more time for a Quad to spin up and carries a lot of speed into a corner.
The armatures are built up using a brand new comm plate that DC HO has made up.  All the other tricks are done to insure a speedy motor.  And they are nice and smooth.
Sprays by Mac painted the Scale Auto Porsche 917K bodies in somewhat of a period scheme.  These lexans may become in short supply since Scale Auto has discontinued their production.
The independent front axle sets are from JW's Speed Parts.  He does a good job fabricating specific axles for specific chassis types.  Original Super II fronts were a solid axle.  These new independents really add to the handling.
Rear tires are from Scale Auto.  They are white .462 ASTs.  I wanted the best for this limited run.
The first three cars are sold to a prominent foreign collector.  He has been a great supporter of the Limited Edition cars from RiggenHO.  His track is a 3-lane clear plexi-glass from Germany.
Cars 4 and 5 are not for sale.  This run of cars completes my efforts for Super Sevens and Super II Reproductions.  It is too hard to locate all of the NOS parts needed to complete such project in a timely and cost effective manner.
